Psalm 29: Ascribe Him Glory-Supplication through the Scriptures
Psalm 29
Ascribe Him Glory
Come, let us worship and bow down, let us kneel before the LORD our Maker.
Psalm 95:6 NASB
Worship is responding to God in honor, awe, and respect in a way that reflects His worthiness. Worship is not confined to our Sunday morning gathering, but we can live our daily lives in a manner worthy of the God who has called us into His kingdom and glory. In Romans 12, Paul calls us, by the mercies of God, to present our bodies as living sacrifices, which is our spiritual worship (12:1). How we live moment by moment and day by day reveals what we consider worthy of our time and attention. Living a life of worship to God recognizes His authority in our lives, His undeserved grace to us, and the magnificence of the God we serve. In thankfulness, let’s praise Him today, whether we are in difficulty or prosperity, may His “praise be continually in my mouth” (Psalm 34:1).
Glory and Strength
29:1-2 Ascribe to the Lord, O heavenly beings, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness.
Lord, I praise You this morning:
▫️Your glory is great, and You have proclaimed that You are compassionate, gracious, slow to anger, abounding in lovingkindness and truth (Exodus 34:6).
▫️You are the Glory of Israel and You do not lie nor change Your mind (1 Samuel 15:29).
▫️You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm. Nothing is too difficult for You! (Jeremiah 32:17)
▫️There is no one holy like the Lord, there is no one besides You, and there is no rock like our God (1 Samuel 2:2).
▫️Holy, holy, holy are You, Lord of hosts. The whole earth is full of Your glory (Isaiah 6:3).
His Mighty Voice
29:3-9 The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord, over many waters. The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is full of majesty. The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars; the Lord breaks the cedars of Lebanon. He makes Lebanon to skip like a calf, and Sirion like a young wild ox. The voice of the Lord flashes forth flames of fire. The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness; the Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh. The voice of the Lord makes the deer give birth and strips the forests bare, and in his temple all cry, "Glory!"
Lord, I lift my praise to You today:
▫️Your word and voice are powerful and full of majesty.
▫️You uphold all things by the word of Your power (Hebrews 1:3).
▫️Your mighty word goes forth from Your mouth and it does not return to You empty, without accomplishing what You desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which You sent it (Isaiah 55:11).
▫️You thunder with Your voice wondrously doing great things which we cannot comprehend (Job 37:5).
▫️You are my refuge and strength, a very present help in time of trouble. Therefore I will not fear, though the earth should change, and the mountains slip into the heart of the sea (Psalm 46:1).
▫️Before the mountains were born or You gave birth to the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God (Psalm 90:2).
▫️You are a God of compassion, and though the mountains may be removed and the hills may shake, Your lovingkindness will not be removed from me (Isaiah 54:10).
▫️You are a God who makes a roadway in the wilderness and rivers in a desert (Isaiah 43:19). I can trust You.
The King Enthroned Forever
29:10-11 The Lord sits enthroned over the flood; the Lord sits enthroned as king forever. May the Lord give strength to his people! May the Lord bless his people with peace!
Sovereign King, I praise You, because:
▫️You are King of kings and Lord of lords.
▫️You are the living God and enduring forever. Your kingdom will not be destroyed, and Your dominion will be forever (Daniel 6:26).
▫️You give strength to Your people!
▫️You bless Your people with peace!
May the Lord do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, for His glory and our good. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
There is quietness within the storm for those who belong to the people of God.
