Psalm 30: Victory in the Battle-Supplication through the Scriptures
Psalm 30
Victory In the Battle
In God’s act of condescension to the psalmist’s need, He realized afresh God’s love for him.

Is there anything looming on the horizon for you this morning? Is there a task that must be completed, a conversation that must be had, a doctor’s appointment that you must attend, a season of uncertainty you must forbear? Is there sin you must confess, forgiveness to extend, patience to exercise? We may feel powerless to even step one foot in the direction we need to go, but as God’s children, we can cry, “Hear, O LORD, and be merciful to me! O LORD be my helper!”(Psalm 30:10) and God is able to exchange your anxiety for His peace, your hurt for His healing, your anger for His forgiveness, and your mourning for His gladness. His faithfulness is trustworthy, and by faith we can look to Him to supply all we need for the next step of faith, no matter how small.
I Cried to You
30:1-5 I will extol you, O Lord, for you have drawn me up and have not let my foes rejoice over me. O Lord my God, I cried to you for help, and you have healed me. O Lord, you have brought up my soul from Sheol; you restored me to life from among those who go down to the pit. Sing praises to the Lord, O you his saints, and give thanks to his holy name. For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning.
Let’s pray:
▫️We would recognize that the Lord had defeated all our enemies at the cross, He will not let our enemies rejoice over us because He has the victory. What enemies do you fear are getting the upper hand in your heart and life?
▫️We would cry to the Lord for His help and He would heal those things in our lives that seem overwhelming or beyond repair.
▫️We would rejoice because He has purchased our souls from going down to the lowest Pit, and He will restore and revive us spiritually as we rest in His sovereign care in this circumstance.
▫️We would praise and give thanks to His holy name for every way that we see His hand at work in our situation, however seemingly small.
▫️We would confidently look forward in anticipation to the bright joy that will come after this night of distress, “Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes in the morning.”
I Plead For Mercy
30:6-9 As for me, I said in my prosperity, "I shall never be moved." By your favor, O Lord, you made my mountain stand strong; you hid your face; I was dismayed. To you, O Lord, I cry, and to the Lord I plead for mercy: "What profit is there in my death, if I go down to the pit? Will the dust praise you? Will it tell of your faithfulness?
Let’s pray:
▫️When we are in a place of prosperity spiritually, financially, relationally, etc., we would not have a false sense of security, but we would instead rejoice in the Lord’s kindness to us and trust Him.
▫️The Lord’s favor would be upon us to strengthen us in the battle, and we would not feel that He has hidden His face from us and increase our sorrow.
▫️We would plead with the Lord for His mercy in our difficult time, decision, season, and He would have compassion on us. Where do you need the Lord’s merciful kindness to you? Is there an area of sinfulness you must forsake? Is there a relationship that needs restoration? Is there a physical ailment that is distressing you?
▫️We would tell of His faithfulness to us, how He has carried us thus far and will continue to be our support and shield.
Clothed with Gladness
30:10-12 Hear, O Lord, and be merciful to me! O Lord, be my helper!" You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; you have loosed my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness, that my glory may sing your praise and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever!
Let’s pray:
▫️The Lord would be our helper this very day in our time of need!
▫️We would have faith to believe that He overrules and overturns evil for our good. We trust that the effects of the curse that we are experiencing are being turned by His loving, fatherly hand for our benefit.
▫️He would turn our mourning into dancing and clothe us with gladness. He would take whatever is causing us deep distress and work so powerfully that even our physical bodies will display the gladness He has given us.
▫️We would sing and not be silent. We would give thanks to Him because He is worthy of our praise, and when He has worked on our behalf, we would not be quick to forget His mercy.
May the Lord do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, for His glory and our good. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
At the Cross of Jesus our crosses are changed into gifts.
