Psalm 15 Supplication through the Scriptures

Only the Righteous

Psalm 15

Every day we are training ourselves in one direction or the other by the thoughts we think, the words we say, the actions we take, and the deeds we do.
Jerry Bridges, The Fruitful Life

God’s goal for His children is that they would be conformed to the image of His Son. While we have been positionally made right with God and stand before Him on the basis of Christ’s merit, we are still sinners in practice and must grow in sanctification while we remain in this life. Today we will pray through Psalm 15 and use its direction to help us pray for growth in godliness.

Who May Abide?

15:1 “O Lord, who shall sojourn in your tent? Who shall dwell on your holy hill?
I pray:
▫️I would abide in You and bear much fruit for Your glory.
▫️I would walk according to the Spirit and rejoice in the work of Christ on my behalf.
▫️I would be made complete in Christ (Colossians 2:28).
▫️I would pursue holiness empowered by the knowledge that You have made me justified in Christ.
▫️I would obtain the crown of righteousness when I have fought the good fight, finished the course, and kept the faith (2 Timothy 4:7-8).

Blameless and Speaks Truth

15:2 He who walks blamelessly and does what is right and speaks truth in his heart;
I pray:
▫️I would be grateful that You have chosen me in Christ to be holy and blameless (Ephesians 1:4).
▫️You would help me to fear You and serve You in sincerity and truth (Joshua 24:14).
▫️You, Lord, would keep me from iniquity and make me attentive to wisdom and incline my heart to understanding (Proverbs 2:2).
▫️In my innermost being, I would speak what is true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, of good  report, excellent and praiseworthy (Philippians 4:8). Do my thoughts align with these characteristics or are there thoughts I must confess?
▫️I would praise You, Lord, that I can renew my mind with Your Word, and I have been given the mind of Christ (Romans 2:2; 1 Corinthians 2:16).
▫️Is there sin I need to confess and put off? Are there righteous deeds, attitudes, or words I need to put on?

No Slander, Evil, or Unfaithfulness

15:3 who does not slander with his tongue and does no evil to his neighbor, nor takes up a reproach against his friend;
I pray:
▫️I would bridle my tongue.
▫️That both blessing and cursing would not proceed from my mouth (James 3:2,10).
▫️That I would put away from myself all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, slander, and unwholesome talk but would instead speak words which impart grace to those who hear (Ephesians 4:29,31).
▫️I would be a delight to You, Father, because I deal faithfully and do not have lying lips (Proverbs 12:22).
▫️You would give me the heart and desire to love my neighbor as myself.
▫️I would willingly lay down my life and serve my family, following Christ’s example.
▫️I would be a faithful friend, and the friendships You have blessed me with would be like iron sharpening iron.

Hates Wickedness; Loves Righteousness

15:4 in whose eyes a vile person is despised, but who honors those who fear the Lord; who swears to his own hurt and does not change;
I pray:
▫️I would abhor what is evil and cling to what is good (Romans 12:9).
▫️I would hold fast to what is good and abstain from every form of evil (1Thessalonians 5:21-22).
▫️When I give my word, I would not go back on it.

He Shall Not Be Moved

15:5 who does not put out his money at interest and does not take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things shall never be moved.”
I pray:
‭‭▫️I would be content with what You have given me and not desire to be rich in this world.
▫️I would be rich towards You and not misuse the possessions You have given me to steward.
▫️I would not trust in the uncertainty of riches but in You, because You richly supply me all things to enjoy (1 Timothy 6:17).
▫️With the wealth and possessions You have given me, I would do good, be rich in good works, generous and ready to share (1Timothy 6:18).
▫️You would establish me and help me to stand firmly for You in this world as I eagerly await Your return.

May the Lord do exceedingly abundantly above all that we could ask or think, for His glory and our good. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Our source of power is in the risen Christ, and we stay connected to Him by beholding Him in His Word and depending on Him in prayer.
