Supplication through the Scriptures-Psalm 10

Psalm 10

Today we are praying for our children. As a parent, one of my deepest desires is for my children to know the Lord and walk in His ways. May they walk with humility and integrity before the Lord.

However, our children are not the only ones who need our prayers. These guides can be easily adjusted to pray for ourselves, our spouses, or anyone on our prayer list. Hudson Taylor said, “Learn to move men through God by prayer alone.” Prayer may not be the only means we use to influence our loved ones, but it is one of the most powerful. We have the ear of God Almighty, let’s use it to intercede for others.

Why, O Lord?

10:1-2 “Why, O Lord, do you stand far away? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble? In arrogance the wicked hotly pursue the poor; let them be caught in the schemes that they have devised.

Let’s pray:

▫️During their times of trouble, the Lord would not feel afar off, but our children would know the Lord is right there with them.

▫️Our children would put away from themselves all pride and self-sufficiency. May they depend on the Lord. Is there an area they are trying to depend on themselves to accomplish something?

▫️The Lord would hear their voice and their prayer for relief in times of trouble. He would draw near when they call, and they would not be afraid (Lamentations 3:56-57).

The Wicked Seek Him Not

10:3-4 For the wicked boasts of the desires of his soul, and the one greedy for gain curses and renounces the Lord. In the pride of his face the wicked does not seek him; all his thoughts are, "There is no God."

Let’s pray:

▫️Our children would keep their tongues from evil. If they boast, they would boast in the Lord and in the cross of Christ.

▫️Our children would not be like the wicked who do not seek the Lord, but they would seek the Lord with their whole heart.

▫️they would draw near to God, and He would draw near to them.

▫️They would not be greedy for gain but content in every circumstance.

▫️They would seek the Lord with all their heart and soul and they would find Him (Deuteronomy 4:29).

Does the Lord See?

10:5-11 His ways prosper at all times; your judgments are on high, out of his sight; as for all his foes, he puffs at them. He says in his heart, "I shall not be moved; throughout all generations I shall not meet adversity." His mouth is filled with cursing and deceit and oppression; under his tongue are mischief and iniquity. He sits in ambush in the villages; in hiding places he murders the innocent. His eyes stealthily watch for the helpless; he lurks in ambush like a lion in his thicket; he lurks that he may seize the poor; he seizes the poor when he draws him into his net. The helpless are crushed, sink down, and fall by his might. He says in his heart, "God has forgotten, he has hidden his face, he will never see it."

Let’s pray:

▫️Our children would be prepared for adversity because they know the Lord and have humbled themselves before Him and trust His care for them.

▫️The Lord would remove any curses, lies, mischief, and wickedness from their mouths. Is there speech they use that dishonors God? Pray their mouths would be filled with words that impart grace to those who hear it.

▫️Our children would walk in integrity and not deceive themselves that the Lord does not see. There is nothing hidden from the sight of the Lord but all things are laid open to Him (Hebrews 4:13). Is there an area of concern in regards to their integrity?

▫️That what they say to themselves in their own heart and their own thoughts would be the truth and not lies.

▫️Our children would defend what is right and defend the helpless and oppressed.

The Lord Sees

10:12-15 Arise, O Lord; O God, lift up your hand; forget not the afflicted. Why does the wicked renounce God and say in his heart, "You will not call to account"? But you do see, for you note mischief and vexation, that you may take it into your hands; to you the helpless commits himself; you have been the helper of the fatherless. Break the arm of the wicked and evildoer; call his wickedness to account till you find none.

Let’s pray:

▫️That whatever our children’s spiritual state is, the Lord would not forget them in their affliction but redeem, restore, and build them up.

▫️Our children would understand that each of us shall give an account of himself to the Lord.

▫️When our children are in need of help, the Lord would be their ever present help in the time of their need (Psalm 46:1).

▫️They would not be among those who renounce and reject the Lord.

▫️Our children would be held safe in the Lord’s hands.

▫️They would entrust themselves to our wise God.

▫️The Lord would be a loving Heavenly Father to those of our children that do not have an earthly father any longer or that have a father who has not displayed the love of God toward them.

He Hears and Strengthens

10:16-18 The Lord is king forever and ever; the nations perish from his land. O Lord, you hear the desire of the afflicted; you will strengthen their heart; you will incline your ear to do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed, so that man who is of the earth may strike terror no more.”

Let’s pray:

▫️The Lord would give them a heart that acknowledges and submits to His kingship.

▫️Our children would be clothed with humility and gain the ear of the Lord in their affliction.

▫️The Lord would strengthen their hearts in Him and His Word, so that He would incline His ear to them and hear the longings of their hearts.

▫️The Lord would deliver our children from any situation where they are being harmed. Is there a friend, influence, belief, or circumstance that is harming your child in some way? Pray for the Lord’s hand to deliver them.

May the Lord do exceedingly abundantly above all that we could ask or think, for His glory and our good. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Great God, we leave ourselves in thine hand; to thee we commit thy church afresh.
