The Majestic One, Our Lord-Psalm 8
The Majestic One, Our Lord
Psalm 8
“No heart can measure, no tongue can utter, the half of the greatness of Jehovah.”
C. H. Spurgeon
My husband rightly explained to our youth the other night that praise is often a forgotten part of prayer, or we have a tendency to rush through our praise of the Lord. Let’s use Psalm 8 to help guide us in praise to Our Majestic Lord.
The Fruit of Our Lips
8:1-2 “O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. Out of the mouth of babies and infants, you have established strength because of your foes, to still the enemy and the avenger.
Let’s praise the Lord, because:
▫️His name is majestic, lofty, and great. In His name we can have strong confidence because all He does aligns with His character revealed to us in His Word.
▫️His glory is above the heavens-far exceeding it in measure.
▫️He is exalted above the heavens.
▫️His glory, His eternal power, and His divine nature are declared through His creation. May we have eyes to see that the things He has created are but faint whisperings of how great He is!
▫️He has displayed His splendor above the heavens.
▫️He alone has the power to establish strength for His people or to cause His enemies to cease.
▫️He will one day permanently defeat the enemy of our souls, Satan, and Christ will reign victoriously.
Where His Loftiness and Our Lowliness Meet
8:3-8 When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas.
Let’s praise our Lord because:
▫️Although He is high and lofty, He is mindful of us, He considers our ways, He sees our thoughts, He knows our burdens. He counts the hairs on our heads and collects our tears in a bottle. Every intricate detail of our lives is intimately known by the Creator of the heavens and the earth.
▫️While upholding the universe by the word of His power, He still cares for us!
▫️He has made us in His image to know and be known by Him, and He has given us a place of dominion over His creation.
▫️Christ, the Son of God, became Immanuel and took on flesh, suffered and died, in order that by the grace of God He might taste death for us. Through His death, He has rendered powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil. Christ is now crowned with glory and honor.
▫️Christ is King of kings and Lord of lords, and God has made us a kingdom and priests to our God and we shall reign with Him forevermore.
Our Majestic Lord
8:9 O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!”
▫️Let’s pray that His great name and word would be proclaimed in all the earth!
May the Lord do exceedingly abundantly above all that we could ask or think, for His glory and our good. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

motivates him to be continually concerned with
humankind.”
