Supplication through the Scriptures-Psalm 11
Psalm 11
Confidence in the Lord is a mark of Christian maturity.W.VanGemeren
Psalm 11 is believed to be written by David at a time when he was being pursued by King Saul. David’s advisors were telling him to run and hide, and yet David decided not to flee but to confidently rest in the Lord as his refuge. There is no difficulty, challenge, or adversity that we cannot entrust to the Lord. We can have confidence in His wise providence and care for us, His children. Psalm 11 gives us an example to follow. As David took refuge in the Lord and was confident that the Lord had His eyes upon him, so we too can know for certain that our Lord keeps watch over us and He will bring us safely into His heavenly kingdom.
Refuge in the Lord
11:1-3 In the Lord I take refuge; how can you say to my soul, "Flee like a bird to your mountain, for behold, the wicked bend the bow; they have fitted their arrow to the string to shoot in the dark at the upright in heart; if the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?"
Let’s pray:
▫️We would take refuge in the Lord, and we would not be tempted to flee to anyone else or trust in anything else besides our God.
▫️We would recognize our help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth (Psalm 121:1).
▫️The Lord would strengthen our hands so we would not be frightened and tempted to flee when we should be courageous (Nehemiah 6:9,11). What situation in your life are you tempted to flee, avoid, or ignore? Pray for the Lord’s wisdom to rightly handle the situation with grace.
▫️Our eyes would be on the Lord and not our circumstances, and we would not be overwhelmed by a feeling of helplessness and hopelessness.
We Shall Behold Him
11-4-7 The Lord is in his holy temple; the Lord's throne is in heaven; his eyes see, his eyelids test the children of man. The Lord tests the righteous, but his soul hates the wicked and the one who loves violence. Let him rain coals on the wicked; fire and sulfur and a scorching wind shall be the portion of their cup. For the Lord is righteous; he loves righteous deeds; the upright shall behold his face.”
Let’s pray:
▫️The Lord would hear our voice from His holy temple, and our enemies would be silent before Him.
▫️Though our afflictions are many, He would deliver us from them all (Psalm 34:19).
▫️We would persevere under trial and receive the crown of life that He has promised to those that love Him (James 1:12).
▫️We would know the fullness of joy that comes from being in His presence.
▫️The eyes of the Lord would be upon us and He would strongly support us.
▫️The testing of the Lord would remove the dross, and we would come forth as gold.
▫️That these difficulties would help us to see and know our Lord more deeply.
▫️That as we behold the glory of the Lord, we would be transformed into the same image from glory to glory (2 Corinthians 3:18).
▫️We would have hope and rejoice, that while we only see Him dimly now, there is a day coming when we shall see His face and behold our King in His beauty.
May the Lord do exceedingly abundantly above all that we could ask or think, for His glory and our good. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
