All Who are in Authority-Psalm 12
All Who are in Authority
We are living in turbulent times, and many question the intentions of our governing authorities and the increase of wickedness in our country. One thing is sure. We are commanded to pray for those in authority “so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity” (1 Timothy 2:2).
Today we will pray through Psalm 12, praying for those in authority and for those who live under that authority. Also, let’s intercede for the persecuted church around the world. Many believers worldwide are facing increasing censorship, surveillance, arrest, and death while claiming the name of Christ. Let’s remember our brothers and sisters in Christ and seek the Lord’s protection on their behalf.
Longing for Safety
12:1-5 “Save, O Lord, for the godly one is gone; for the faithful have vanished from among the children of man. Everyone utters lies to his neighbor; with flattering lips and a double heart they speak. May the Lord cut off all flattering lips, the tongue that makes great boasts, those who say, "With our tongue we will prevail, our lips are with us; who is master over us?" "Because the poor are plundered, because the needy groan, I will now arise," says the Lord; "I will place him in the safety for which he longs."
Let’s pray:
▫️When it feels like evil is flourishing and the godly are perishing, we would look to God Almighty to save His people and increase righteousness in the land.
▫️In compassion the Lord would come to our aid and multiply the faithful and godly throughout our country and our leadership through the raising of godly offspring, evangelism, and boldness in believers in their life and speech.
▫️That those leaders, who lie and speak peace while evil is in their hearts, would not prosper.
▫️The Lord would rise up against those who speak worthlessly, desire to advance the kingdom of darkness, and attempt to thwart the ways of the Lord.
▫️The people who promote evil plans and speak arrogantly would humble themselves before the Lord.
▫️The faithful would cry and groan unto the Lord, and He would arise and change hearts, laws, and agendas, in order that His people would be safe.
▫️The Lord would help His people persevere and stand firm in times of peril and danger.
▫️Lift up to the Lord the President of our country, the Legislator, the Judicial branch, and our military.
▫️The Lord would raise up men and women who, like Daniel, Esther, and Nehemiah, have the ear of the leader and are in positions of authority and influence.
The Lord Guards His People
12:6-8 The words of the Lord are pure words, like silver refined in a furnace on the ground, purified seven times. You, O Lord, will keep them; you will guard us from this generation forever. On every side the wicked prowl, as vileness is exalted among the children of man.”
Let’s pray:
▫️The Lord would help His people to set their hope on His pure, tested, and proven word. His word would be loved by His people and they would have endurance knowing that not one of His good promises has ever failed.
▫️His people would not grow weak and weary in doing good but would be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, and be courageous and strong (1 Corinthians 16:13).
▫️The Lord would watch over, guard, and keep His children from all evil, wicked influences and authorities, and from those who seek their harm and destruction.
▫️As vileness continues to increase and be exalted in the world, His people would prove themselves blameless and innocent, children of God, above reproach in the midst of this crooked and perverse generation, and we would appear as lights in the world holding fast the word of life (Philippians 2:15-16).
▫️For the persecuted believers around the world to cling to the Lord, live boldly, and continue to spread the gospel in their communities.
May the Lord do exceedingly abundantly above all that we could ask or think, for His glory and our good. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Regardless of the circumstances of life, God’s children are assured of the special protection of their heavenly Father from the evil of the world in which they live. The wicked may turn the world upside down, but God will guard His own.W. VanGemeren
